Emergency Preparedness Event - UNM Campus

Mike Scales has asked if SCARES can help with an Emergency Preparedness Event happening this Sunday June 12th from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm (setup starts at 7:00 am).

The event is being sponsored by the UNM Department of Emergency Management and UNM Office of Diversity, and is being held for about 650 middle school and high school students interested in careers in Science & Technology.  The theme this year is earthquakes.

UNM is planning to have about 20 different stations, where groups of 30-35 students (and their chaperones) will rotate thru each location every 30 minutes. Presenters will need to repeat their presentation about 5 times.

UNM is asking SCARES to man one of the stations and give a show-and-tell of radio equipment and how it would be used in disaster situation. There won't be time for powerpoint presentations, etc. just informal question and answer session, with short demo of equipment.

I realize this is short notice, and that we have a number of members in Santa Fe this weekend for a Horse Endurance Event, but I'm looking for 2 or 3 volunteers that would be willing help me with the event. I'm looking for folks that can bring their Handheld Radio, Emergency Go-Kit, Packet System, and/or HF Radio and be willing to show it to the students.  Nothing very complicated, as these are mostly young people with no exposure to radio gear.

This is a Public Service opportunity to show the younger generation:
What we do, and Why we do it. It could even result in some future ham radio operators.
